Fire Resistant Insulation
In a fire, polyester insulation, bonded together by heat, is at risk due to the glues that hold it together. The polyester fibers alone are at risk, and when exposed to fire, they melt.

What and Why - Cavity Sliding Doors
Переглядів 3279 місяців тому
Cavity sliding doors can cause draught issues due to their sliding into an external wall. The door's non-smooth surface facilitates draught from the wall cavity, which backs into the home. To address this, remove the door completely and seal the cavity, refit it, and ensure proper hanging and alignment. Another option is to use draught dodgers' cavity sliding door kit, which seals the door on o...

    This looks too good to be true and may be. I checked with the manufacturer and they said this sealant is not approved or recommended for this purpose. It is too soft for flooring.

    What is the brand and part number of the insulation being used. Also what prevents rats from getting into the insulation in the area between the steeples?

    • @ecoMasterAu
      @ecoMasterAu 3 дні тому

      We use Value Poly Underfloor Insulation R2.5 in Victoria and Bradford's Polymax R2.5 Underfloor Insulation in other states. If you install the insulation according to the video, as in stapled on both sides of the joist every 100mm to 150mm, there is no room for rats to get through.

    Very helpful and detailed video but I have questions. If you're putting insulation where the cables are on the joists, doesn't this pose potential safety hazard of the cabling heating up past it's capabilities and start a fire? Also my house has vents on bricks for airflow, and some are in line where the joists are. Would I have to leave a small part of the underfloor closest to the vents uninsulated in this case?

    • @killerinfo
      @killerinfo 22 години тому

      Also I've read that you shouldn't staple directly into the floor boards. Bit of a red flag my comment was ignored while you replied to the more recent commentator.

    Never seen this product before, came across it when looking at options for vendors for various door sweeps and weatherstripping that can be used in non-traditional door situations! Looks fantastic and I'm keeping this in my back pocket as a property manager to use for odd situations. One thing to note for future vids (I know this was posted 5 years ago): if possible, I'd try to center the actual work being done with hands/installation more in the center of the video, because closed captioning completely blocks what's going on. It’s easier to just mask the floor adjacent the gaps than have all the clean up. Also Selley’s make a flexible wood caulk that is tinted to various wood grains that works great which is another option.

    • @ecoMasterAu
      @ecoMasterAu Рік тому

      Talia, Thanks for your comment but there are a couple of issues with your proposed approach. 1) Masking takes a lot of time and is very fiddly 2) Disposing of the masking material is quite wasteful of resources and creates landfill 3) Selleys product still requires you to select a matching colour which can be problematic if it does not match your floorboards

    • @TaliaDakota
      @TaliaDakota Рік тому

      @@ecoMasterAu I don’t think offering up alternative options for people who are new to doing work around their homes means there are issues with what I suggested. Masking up is just as time consuming as being on your knees wiping up excess product from the floor. When we’re talking about using chemicals and synthetic products that require cleaning up and disposing of, I think that pretty much negates the argument of wastage of masking tape and the effect on the environment and landfill. Where does the paper towel with excess caulk go once you clean it up off the floor? The Selleys hardwood floor caulk comes in many shades and if someone is concerned about matching the colour then of course they could use the product you suggest. I am merely offering my advice with what might assist someone to feel confident enough to do a job like this. Not everyone is a pro with a caulk gun and doing work like this.

    wouldn't it make more sense to put the v upside down? so it catches the drafts on the way in? My worry is that the wind will blow and as the bottom of the V is facing the wind (so to speak), it will blow past it. When you do the vertial, you do it this way round. Why not do it that way round on the bottom? I am confused.

    • @ecoMasterAu
      @ecoMasterAu Рік тому

      Hi Stretch, Thanks for your question. The reason we suggest installing it with the V facing down is that in more instances you will make a more effective seal on the door (utilising the brush that comes with the door). Your idea is a good one if you are expecting gale force winds underneath your sliding door. Given the design of most sliding doors, that is less likely. Cheers

      How did it turn out? You installed the flyscreens on the inside/living side of the windows?

    Available in the U.S.? If so, where?

      Unfortunately no Gary, this is not available in the US. Insulation is very bulk and not cost effective to ship internationally. We are sorry we are not able to help you.

    Either side of the door at the frame there is a gap. What can be done to stop the air flowing in through that gap at one side of the door, then around behind the end of the door and back out through the gap on the other side of the door? Of course if there wasn't this gap either side then the door would rub or bind against the frame whilst it is open or closed.

      There are two ways to treat cavity sliding doors. * The first is the Draught Dodgers Cavity Sliding Door Kit which will only draught proof one side of the door when that door is closed. For example, a sliding door to a walk in robe can be draught proofed on the bedroom side, leaving the ventilation to occur within the walk in robe via the gaps within the cavity itself. * The second way is to seal the cavity. To do this you need to remove the door first. Then seal all the gaps within the cavity itself and then replace the door. The video for doing this is here. ua-cam.com/video/OY58GWUjmdc/v-deo.html

    This is beneficial for northern humid parts of Australia, but for the rest of Australia, foil sarking should NOT be taped up perfectly because it is NOT a vapour permeable material, and it could cause serious moisture problems inside your walls, especially around wet areas like the kitchen and the bathroom on south facing walls. All wraps south of humid areas of Australia should be installed with vapour permeable wraps, externally NOT foil sarking and then this information is pertinent. 👍🏻. Happy new year, EcoMaster! 😉. Hope this helps.

      Thanks John and Happy New Year to Efficiency Matrix too. Thank you for the additional important distinctions on wall wraps. This particular installation was indeed in Queensland (which for others reading these comments is a northern humid part of Australia). Obviously having the right product in the right place is the first step. The second step is correct installation.
